2016 has been quite a year, and I'm happy to share that on October 22, I married my beautiful wife Melissa in Kerrville, Texas! Melissa and I met in middle school, dated in high school, and then we took a break for 10 years. One day, we found each other and fell in love again. The picture below is from our high school prom, and for some reason I thought growing my hair out then was a good idea. Here's to our next chapter!
Summer with Texas Lions Camp
I've just returned from two weeks in Kerrville, Texas where I took a break from architecture in order to volunteer with the medical staff for Texas Lions Camp. My fiancée and I served alongside 60+ medical volunteers and the countless other staff that run the camp operations for over 400 campers with Type 1 Diabetes. Our med staff responsibilities included educating campers about their diabetes management and checking the campers' blood sugar levels before each meal, during activities, at bedtime, and at midnight. This was a new experience for me (and in the beginning I was way out of my comfort zone!) but I had a great time working with some amazing people and I learned so much.
Texas Lions Camp provides a summer camp experience at no charge to children with medical conditions (and they have been doing so since 1949!). Some of the activities include archery, horseback riding, swimming, ropes, and of course a camp out under the stars. The entire camp is fully accessible and staffed by some of the greatest people I've ever met. Find out more about the camp here.
Back from Honduras!
I'm back from our mission trip to Honduras and I'm happy to report that we successfully drilled a new water well for a village in Lucia. The mission trip was organized through Sugar Creek Baptist Church and Living Water International, and it truly was an incredible experience!
Volunteering with OneGoal Houston
Melissa and I visited South Early College High School to speak to the students about their college journeys with OneGoal Houston - more info here: http://www.onegoalgraduation.org
We had a chance to talk with them and answer their questions about specific career paths and college experiences. One of the students was interested in architecture, and we discussed the challenges and opportunities of the profession.
