Exhibit Display Prototype

The prototype was designed & fabricated for inclusion in the Architecture Center Houston Made/Unmade Competition to replace their exhibit furniture damaged by Hurricane Harvey flooding. The design utilizes floating panels mounted on concealed brackets to create a clean, simple and universal system to accommodate an unlimited variety of forms without distracting from the exhibit. When appropriate, LED lighting can be remotely activated within each box to create a glowing focal point. Interchangeable panels with modular proportions and omni-directional mounting plates allow for an unlimited variety of sizes, forms, and colors that can be configured for each exhibit.

Aesthetics / Floating panels are mounted onto concealed brackets to create a clean, simple and universal system to accommodate an unlimited variety of forms without distracting from the exhibit. When appropriate for the exhibit, customizable lighting can be remotely activated within each box to create a glowing focal point.

Versatility / Interchangeable panels with modular proportions and omni-directional mounting plates allow for an unlimited variety of sizes, forms, and colors that can be configured for each display.

Storage / Panels store flat while brackets can be nested and stacked together. The modular system design allows panels to be reused for various forms, effectively minimizing the need for an extensive inventory. Durability / The painted finish allows for plywood panels to be patched and repainted as needed, and the individual panels can be replaced if damaged beyond repair. Welded steel corner brackets and steel mounting plates are designed for strength and durability.

Fabrication & Budget / 3/4” maple plywood panels are sourced locally and cut to size. The mitered edges are created with a standard router bit. Plates and Brackets are plasma-cut 10 gauge steel and locally fabricated. Miscellaneous hardware and other components are either sourced locally or they are readily available online for a reasonable cost.
